YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - If you're a veteran in Mahoning County, you can now get a special I.D. for your wallet.
The new cards are proof of military service and can be used in many circumstances including for merchants who offer discounts to veterans.
“It’s called a Veterans I.D. documentation card, and it has all the information such as when the veteran served, the discharge date, entry date, and the volume page where it is recorded in our office,” said Mahoning County Recorder Noralynn Palermo.
The Veterans I.D. card is part of a state wide program offered at the county level.
Veterans need to bring their discharge papers to the county recorder, pay a $1 fee, and the card will be issued that day.
Mahoning and Stark counties are the only local counties currently offering the service.
